Retail Rescue Issues -
2025 Bad Experiences
Although Pixies and Paws markets itself as a rescue, records show that it has imported hundreds of puppies into New Jersey, many of which were sourced from high-volume breeders and brokers, including individuals and facilities flagged in government reports and national advocacy watchdog publications.
These animals are not strays or abandoned pets rescued from overcrowded shelters. Instead, they appear to be purpose-bred puppies, purchased in bulk and transported across state lines—then made available for “adoption” at fixed fees that closely resemble retail pet store pricing.
If you or someone you know has had a concerning experience with Pixies and Paws, we encourage you to share it with us. We cannot advocate for change without your voice and your story.

HELP US - Advocate
ONE WAY - STOP THE PUPPY MILL PIPELINE INTO NJ
S2511/A4051
🚨 HELP US – SUPPORT S2511/A4051
Stop the Puppy Mill Pipeline into NJ!
Too many pet store puppies—and even animals from so-called “rescues”—are sourced from out-of-state puppy mills. Pet dealers and puppy-flipping rescues are profiting by disguising retail sales as adoptions, deceiving the public while animals suffer.
S2511/A4051 will shut down the pipeline by banning the retail sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits unless they come from legitimate shelters and rescues.
📣 Take action. Be their voice. Demand change.
BUT THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO HELP, NOT JUST WITH S2511/A4051!
Shining a Light When It’s Needed Most in Some Animal Shelters
When Help Isn’t Enough—Some Shelters Need Oversight
Many animal shelters in New Jersey are overcrowded, understaffed, and severely under-resourced. The people working in these facilities are often stretched thin, doing everything they can to care for animals with limited funding, limited space, and little public support. These shelters deserve compassion, community involvement, and your help—whether through fostering, volunteering, donating, or advocating for more resources.
But not all shelters are doing the best they can.
There are some facilities that lack transparency, operate without adequate oversight, and fail to meet even the most basic standards of humane care. These are not just overwhelmed shelters—they are operations where systemic neglect, mismanagement, or disregard for animal welfare may be taking place behind closed doors.
These shelters don’t need more volunteers.
They need public accountability, regulatory scrutiny, and the courage of people willing to speak up.
If you believe a shelter in New Jersey is:
-
Turning away stray animals unlawfully
-
Failing to provide proper food, water, or veterinary care
-
Housing animals in unsafe or unsanitary conditions
-
Operating without required licenses or inspections
-
Mishandling funds intended for animal care
-
Ignoring public complaints or refusing to respond transparently
…then we want to hear from you.
⚠️ You may be the only voice those animals have.
Your concerns could help bring serious issues to light, support formal investigations, and ultimately improve conditions for the animals and communities affected.
📝 Submit information confidentially through our Shelter Oversight Form
📢 Together, we can shine a light where it's needed most—and hold the system accountable.
